Five People Dead as Multiple Tornadoes Strike Nashville

The National Weather Service confirms that multiple tornadoes struck the Nashville, Tennessee area early Tuesday morning.

Five people have died and at least 40 structures were severely damaged as multiple tornadoes swept through the Nashville Tennessee area early Tuesday morning.  The National Weather Service confirmed the presence of active tornadoes.  Severe damage included multiple partial building collapses were reported.

Local weather reporters and many residents took to Twitter to document the damage (as shown above).  The storms moved along a west-to-east line from the town of Dickson through downtown passing north of the state capital and out to the suburb of Mount Juliet to the east.

All Metro Nashville schools are closed Tuesday.
