ContactRelief Recommendations for Contact Centers

ContactRelief is making public recommendations made to ContactRelief subscribers, Thursday, December 21st, 2017. ContactRelief recommends resuming contact with consumers affected by the Thomas fire.

Mandatory Evacuations Lifted As Thomas Fire Reaches Historic Proportions

All mandatory evacuations have been lifted for the Thomas as officials report there is no immediate danger for residents near the fire perimeter. Although winds gusted Thursday to 50 mph, firefighters reported no remarkable activity as the fire continued its now slow burn across the area. Fire containment perimeters and favorable offshore winds have helped firefighters stop the fire's advance on Santa Barbara. While large areas continue to burn, much of the active fire perimeter is now concentrated in the Los Padres National Forest and away from populated areas.

The fire, now 65% contained, has left over 272,000 charred acres in its wake, putting it within 1,200 acres of becoming California's largest wildfire. Although the fire is not expected to be fully contained until early January, firefighters have finally seemed to gain the upper hand. We are therefore recommending resumption of contact with consumers in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. However, we emphasize that the fire has destroyed or damaged over 1,000 structures, the vast majority of which were single-family residences. For these consumers, the fire will continue show its impact for some time. We urge subscribers to implement customized handling for these consumers. ContactRelief’s 24-hour diaster decisions team will continue to monitor the event and is ready to act if circumstances change.
