ContactRelief is tracking the remnants of Tropical Storm Harvey, curently positioned over the eastern Bay of Campeche in the Gulf of Mexico, which is expected to strengthen over the next 48 hours threathening the Texas coast. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports that Harvey is likely to to regenerate into a tropical cyclone over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday or Thursday, move northwestward, and possibly make landfall along the Texas coast by Friday.

The system may stall as it approaches the Texas coast caught between two high pressure systems, one over the Gulf of Mexico steering the system towards Texas and one over the Desert Southwest slowing its movement. The NHC says this system could produce storm surge flooding along portions of the Texas coast and flooding rainfall across portions of southern and eastern Texas and western Louisiana. Tropical storm or even hurricane force winds are also possible along portions of the Texas coast, although it is too early to determine which areas could see these direct impacts. People along the Texas coast should monitor the progress of this system and follow any instructions provided by their local officials.

NOAA's quantitative precipitation forecast depicts up to 12.1 inches of rainfall for portions of the Texas coast over the next 5 days.
